Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo presents the exhibiton “Fato aberto: o desenho no acervo da Pinacoteca do Estado” [Open fact: the drawing in Pinacoteca's collection]. The name of the show was inpired by Mário de Andrade’s poem, called “Do desenho”. According to him, the drawing is “a transitoriness and a wisdom,” and it is “an open fact, by nature.”.
The exhibition comprises about 140 works and presents to the public a selection of drawings from the institution’s collection, gathered during over 100 years. Some works in this show are being exhibited for the first time. More than 60 artists participate in this exhibition. The oldest work dates from 1820, by Henry Chamberlain, and the newest one was created in 1991, by Alex Cerveny. Some other artists that participate in this show are Wesley Duke Lee, Pedro Américo, Artur Barrio, Vicente do Rego Monteiro, Mira Schendel, Helio Oiticica, Victor Meirelles, Frans Krajcberg, Ivan Serpa, Flavio de Carvalho, Cildo Meireles and Benno Treidler.
A catalogue with four volumes will be released, with covers by Rivane Neuenschwander, Jac Leirner, Tunga and Nicolás Robbio, and with texts written by Bernardo Carvalho, Lilia Moritz Schwarcz, Guy Brett and Tales Ab’Saber, besides texts by curator Giancarlo Hannud.
