PIPA Prize 2017 Finalists’ Exhibition may just have started, but it’s already caught the attention of one of the main Brazilian newspapers. The group show was featured in a half-page article this Monday on O Globo. The piece presented the participating artists – PIPA Prize’s eighth edition finalists, Antonio Obá, Bárbara Wagner, Carla Guagliardi and Éder Oliveira – and the artworks the four exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-Rio) since last Saturday, September 23rd. PIPA Institute Curator Luiz Camillo Osorio too contributed to the piece, stating that the finalists represent Brazilian contemporary production in a de-centralized context. “Their ability to use different media to build their work reinforces the freedom with which they all approach contemporary themes,” he said.
Chosen amongst the 56 artists nominated for the Prize this year, Obá, Bárbara, Carla and Oliveira are running for PIPA Prize’s main category, worth R$130,000, a sum which also includes a three-month artistic residency in Residency Unlimited, New York. The winner will be selected by an Award Jury whose members will be announced on November 10th. The finalists also run for PIPA Prize Popular Vote Exhibition, category which awards with R$24,000 the artist who’s most voted by the visitors of the PIPA Prize 2017 Finalists’s Exhibition at MAM-Rio.
The winners of both categories will be announced on November 18th, when the PIPA Prize eighth edition catalog will also be launched. PIPA Prize 2017 Finalists’ Exhibition will be on view at MAM-Rio until November 26th. See you there!
