Daniel Senise, Untitled, 2017

Daniel Senise’s paintings/collages made out of pages of old books

(New York, US)

From artist monographs to religious books, pages of vintage books are the starting point for Daniel Senise‘s, PIPA Prize 2010 Nominating Committee member, works showcased at “Printed Matter”, his solo show at the Nara Roesler Gallery. The exhibition displays fifteen of these paintings-collages in which Senise creates a new pictorial platform, tapping into the power retained by material and addressing the question of matter versus time.

Know as a painter, the artist presents works that defies the category of “painting”. Four works feature recycled or shredded paper, while the remaining eleven pieces make use of paper to build a geometric landscape on aluminium base. More interest in the image itself over the process of painting, Senise re-appropriates these pages from old books to expand the notions of painting and experiment alternative processes to conceiving image.
