One of the most important Brazilian newspapers, O Globo published this Sunday – one day after the PIPA Prize 2017 official Winners’ Announcement at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM Rio), which took place this Saturday, November 18th – a piece about the award. The story lists the winners of the PIPA and PIPA Popular Vote Exhibition categories, describes the works on view at the PIPA Prize 2017 Exhibition, and the criteria used by the Award Jury 2017 to choose the grand winner.
– Wagner’s works have a very dynamic way of dealing with Brazilian popular culture, be it funk, gospel, or frevo. She knows how to translate this popular body into a contemporary language.
Although the winners have already been announced, the eighth PIPA Prize Finalists’ Exhibition is still on view at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, ending this Sunday, November 26th. The show features works by this edition’s winner, Bárbara Wagner, the winner of the PIPA Prize Popular Vote Exhibition category, Éder Oliveira, and the finalists Antonio Obá and Carla Guagliardi.
