Last Saturday, November 18th, PIPA Institute Curator Luiz Camillo Osorio announced the winner of the eighth edition of the Prize at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-Rio). The date also featured the announcement of the most voted artist by the visitors of the Finalists’ Exhibition, winner of the PIPA Popular Vote Exhibition category, and the launching of the 2017 Catalog – revamped, it was given a new cover design and features exclusive critical texts about each of this edition’s finalists.
Camillo was one of the members of the Award Jury 2017, accompanied by Fernando Cocchiarale, Consuelo Bassanesi, Leda Catunda and Marcelo Campos. The group was imbued with the mission of choosing the PIPA Prize 2017 winner, analyzing, in a meeting at MAM-Rio, the finalists’ portfolios and trajectories; works showcased at the PIPA Prize Exhibition at the museum; and the relevance of the Prize for each of the artists’ career. Chosen among Antonio Obá, Bárbara Wagner, Carla Guagliardi and Éder Oliveira, the winner is announced in the video below, produced by Do Rio Filmes:
The PIPA Prize 2017 winner receives a financial donation and a three-month participation in a residency programme at Residency Unlimited, in New York, in 2018. The total amount of the donation is R$130,000. PIPA Popular Vote Exhibition winner receives a financial donation of R$24,000. The winners of both categories donate each one artwork to PIPA Institute.
Although the winner of this edition of PIPA Prize has already been announced, the Finalists’ Exhibition is still on view at MAM-Rio. But rush: it’s only until this Sunday, November 26th.
