Art Basel Hong Kong reunites galleries from 32 countries

(Hong Kong, China)

Art Basel Hong Kong opens its 6th edition this Tuesday, March 27th (guest-only), and goes on until Saturday, March 31st. The show features 248 galleries from 32 countries, 28 of them first-time exhibitors and four of them from Brazil, namely Bergamin & Gomide, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Mendes Wood DM and Galeria Nara Roesler.

All of the four spaces participate in the main sector of the show, “Galleries”, which features in total 195 leading international galleries. Latin American presence is rather small – asides Brazil, Mexico is the only other country from Latin America to be represented in the show –, and Asia and the Asia-Pacific regions respond for most of the exhibition, both in the “Galleries” sector and in the peripheral parts of the show, namely “Insights” (featuring presentations by one or two artists with exceptional historical materials and strong thematic exhibitions), “Discoveries” (focused on solo shows by 25 emerging artists), “Kabinett” (dedicated to curated exhibitions within the galleries’ booths), “Encounters” and “Film.”

Nevertheless, the show represents an opportunity to see works such as “Terremoto santo” [Holy Tremor], by Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Búrca, currently on view at Instituto Moreira Salles Rio de Janeiro (IMS RJ) and available at Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel’s booth there, and canvases by Brazilian masters Lygia Pape, Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica and Waltercio Caldas, the latter at Benjamin & Gomide’s booth.
