Jonathas de Andrade and Laura Lima are some of the artists who participate in “Welcome to the Jungle”, which opens at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf this Saturday, March 3rd. The exhibition assembles works that discuss, often with humour, the problems and paradoxes faced when trying to do the right thing in a time when the density of information takes on jungle-like proportions.
The video installations, performances and site-specific works on view are, however, less interested in suggesting a concrete path for change than in exploring, in depth, the dilemmas of this particular “jungle”, encouraging visitors to find by themselves new (be them poetic or absurd) answers to the ultimate question: “How do I want to live?”
The artists who were invited to participate in the exhibition are distinguished by the fact that they use their own specific approach to media to create captivating pictures and stories that are persuasive due to their choice of themes and their aesthetics. Many of the selected works deal with concrete situations and developments that they observe and in which they (aesthetically) intervene. Beyond a purely documentary approach and attitude of enlightenment, the works deal with the strategies of the documentary and ultimately also the unattainability of the one sole truth or the one right path.
