Jonathas de Andrade: O peixe [The Fish], 2016

Jonathas de Andrade exhibits “The Fish” in London

(London, UK)

Strange Days: Memories of the Future is the current video and film immersive exhibition idealized by The Store X, The Vinyl Factory and New York’s New Museum with the most compelling productions exposed in these three organizations in the last ten years.

The presentation gathers 21 artists, including Jonathas de Andrade and John Akomfrah, Ed Atkins, Camille Henrot, Kahlil Joseph, Hassan Khan, Ragnar Kjartansson, Oliver Laric, Klara Lidén, Maha Maamoun, Daria Martin, Wong Ping, Laure Prouvost, Cheng Ran, Lili Reynaud-Dewar, Pipilotti Rist, Anri Sala, Mounira Al Solh and Cally Spooner.

Andrade’s film exhibited in The Store X is The Fish (O Peixe, 2016). The artist reproduces the behavior of some fishermen from Alagoas, in the Northeast of Brazil, who delicately hug the fishes before the animals die. Jonathas de Andrade claims that discussing nature-related themes is extremely relevant into the cities since the urbanization changed the exchange between people and nature.
