Regina de Paula

Born in Curitiba (PR), in 1957. Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.

About the artist

She received a MFA from Columbia University (NY/USA) and a PhD in Visual Arts from EBA/UFRJ (Rio de Janeiro/Brazil). Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor in the Arts Institute at UERJ (Rio de Janeiro/Brazil). She was awarded the RioArte fellowship, the Brasilia Prize for Visual Arts, and the main prize at VI Salão da Bahia, among others. In 2005 she was the artist in resident at Centre d’art Passerelle (Brest, France).
Regina de Paula works with several media: photography, video, installation, drawing, and painting. In the last years, her main artistic concern has been the city – both the constructed space and the natural landscape. In her artwork, she poetically visualizes the confrontation of nature and architecture in the urban space.
