Denise Gadelha

Denise Gadelha is a visual artist, critic and educator specialized in contemporary art and photography. She has an MD in Visual Poetics from the Art Institute_UFRGS.
As an artist, she was recently integrated into the exhibition Generation 00: The New Brazilian Photography, curated by Eder Chiodetto and shown at Sesc Belenzinho, São Paulo in 2011. In 2010 she was also integrated into the exhibition Histories of Maps, Pirates and Treasures at Itau Cultural Institute in São
Paulo, curated by Eduardo Brandão and Cia de Foto. Amongst many collective shows and individuals’ exhibitions, the Chamex Prize for Yong Art is highlighted, in which she received a bursary to the Dynamic Encounters International Workshops that took her to London in 2004. Since then she has been invited to
collaborate with this educational project, regularly visiting over seven countries.
She has coordinated the seminar Photography as a Starting Point at SP_Arte/Foto 2011, and the educational program at SP_Arte/Foto 2010. Denise also regularly conducts guided tours to Inhotim Institute. In 2011 she did an artist residency in Centro de la Imagen, Lima, Peru, which evolved a theoretical workshop and a curatorial practice that resulted in an exhibition at El Borde. Currently she teaches in São Paulo at Casa do Saber, Projeto Cultura, the Atelier Hermes and A Pipa.
