MAC USP presents over a hundred works from its collection

(São Paulo, Brazil) PIPA Prize finalist Jonathas de Andrade is one of the artists who had had their works recently added to the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da USP (MAC USP)’s collection. To celebrate the fact, the institution put together “MAC no Século XXI – A Era dos Artistas”, which showcases, starting this weekend, over a hundred works belonging to its collection.

Opening | “Dez ao Cubo”, group show with Julio Leite and Marco Antonio Portela

(Porto Alegre, Brazil) The newest meeting of artists integrating the “Dez ao Cubo” group brings for the first time guests that incorporated the concept by questioning the creative originality by appropriating the regular hexahedral commonly known as the cube. Similar to every great movement, the artists meeting came from the controversy about who was the first to “think” of a cube? And what seemed a mere dialectics question, ended up finding people claiming to be “heirs” to the cube. But jokes apart, the reivindication of something so present in the human DNA seems so unlikely that it propelled ten artists in joining the cause through infinite possibilities of examining, externalising and expliciting the cubic configuration.

Last days | “A Realidade do sonho”, with Eduardo Frota, Júlio Leite, Lourival Cuquinha, Solon Ribeiro and Yuri Firmeza

(Fortaleza, Brazil) “It is not about identifying what is being presented as fiction or reality, but acknowledging that this imaginary goes from dream to reality. Like in the novels by Italian writer Luigi Pirandello, published between 1894 and 1934, reflect and express the contrast between what seems to be and what must be, between life and form or even, what is real in the dream and that materializes in body and soul”, says curator Jacqueline Medeiros.

Group exhibition examines Chico da Silva’s oeuvre

(Fortaleza, Brazil) Eduardo Frota, Júlio Leite, Lourival Cuquinha, Solon Ribeiro and Yuri Firmeza are some of the artists featured in “A realidade do sonho” [“The reality of dreams”], a group exhibition comprising 55 pieces that offer a free way of observing and understanding through relationships that amplify and update the matters in Chico da Silva’s work, instead of a chronological narrative. The artworks in this show become key in presenting universal themes, contemporary life and in putting visitors in a game of metaphysics meaning, making up an imagetic poem that modifies rational logic.
