The Oscar Niemeyer Museum (MON) hosts the first edition of the show “FotoBienal MASP”. The exhibition presents works that talk about the relation between photography and other media, making possible new meanings and paths for contemporary artistic production. Before arriving at MON, the show was on display at the São Paulo Museum of Art Assis Chateaubriand.
This edition, conceived by Teixeira Coelho, MASP (São Paulo Museum of Art) curator, and supported by Pirelli, presents Ricardo Resende as a guest curator. Among over 30 participating artists are the Brazilian Fernanda Magalhães, Rochelle Costi, Claudia Jaguaribe, Rosângela Rennó, Caio Reisewitz, Rodrigo Braga, Berna Reale, Dora Longo Bahia, Odires Mlászho, the Serbian artist Marina Abramovic and the Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz.
In the show, the traditional language of photography is confronted with other media such as painting, video and installation.
The collection began in 1990 as a joint project between MASP and Pirelli, an important tyre manufacturer in Brazil. During these years, the goal was to create a representative representative panel of Brazilian contemporary photography, from 1940 and 1950. The set gathers over 1.000 works.
