“Encontros Carbônicos”, featuring Otavio Schipper and Ricardo Basbaum

The group exhibition “Encontros Carbônicos” (Carbonic Encounters) is currently on view at Largo das Artes. The aim of the show is to combine contemporary artworks to transdisciplinary debates and talks between artists and scientists.

In its first edition, the project curated by Carbono magazine editors Marina Fraga and Pedro Urano, will occupy the Largo das Artes area for four weeks, with pieces by artists who have been featured in the magazine. They are: Otavio Schipper, Fábia Schnoor, Marina Fraga, Mayra Martins Redin, Lilian Zaremba, Rodolfo Caesar, Danilo Carvalho, Leila Danziger, Maria Mazzillo and Raquel Versieux. In ways either explicit or vague, their work materialize the dialogue between art and science.

The talks shall start on Saturday the 29th, entirely in Portuguese. The event will also be broadcasted live through the website, that you can visit clicking here.

Saturday the 12th April, at 5pm: Encounter 3 – complexity, biology and creativity

Saturday the 26th April, at 5pm: ‘Personne’ Concert, Launch of Carbono magazine’s sixth edition and Launch of Mayra Martins Redin’s book “Histórias de observatório” (Observatory stories).

About the artists
Ricardo Basbaum is an artist, writer and curator. Works around social and interpersonal relationships, developing a communicative framework to enable the circulation of actions and forms. With diagrams, drawings, texts and installations, has created dialogical situations in which the individual personal experience of the participating actors and viewers is a decisive and relevant aspect.

Otavio Schipper Otavio Schipper has a degree in Physics from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He took up fine arts through courses in Parque Lage and as assistant to the photographer Pedro de Moraes. He worked in the computer graphics group of the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada ( IMPA) developing research in 3D photography. He has an extensive list of exhibitions, solo and group, in Brazil and abroad, as well as a few published books and texts.
