As part of the II Lima Photography Biennial, which starts today at 7pm, artists Fabio Morais, Jonathas de Andrade and Rafael Assef will feature in the the exhibition “Brasil, voces en la multitud” (Brazil, you in the crowd).
In the Latin American context, Brazilian visual creation offers not only a group of remarkable creators, images and tendencies, but also a universe on its own. This section focuses on different Brazilian perspectives and welcomes historical and contemporary shows.
Currently, Brazilian photography is going through a transition phase, without completely abandoning its main differences in regards to the rest of Latin American photography. Three representatives of the current Brazilian photographic scene were invited to show these aspects to the public, curated by Denise Gadelha and Jorge Villacorta.
Assef elaborates a series entitled “Branding”, where he puts together contemporary artists names that express public images. De Andrade‘s video “4000 disparos” (4000 shots) will be screened, where the artist transforms takes of passersby heads into a progression of unknown people meaning to articulate a notion of social structure. Morais will address the communication potential in an image according to the context it is inserted in or according to its interpreting stages.
