“Deságua” by Celina Portella

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

“Deságua” (Recede), a solo show by artist Celina Portella is currently on view at A Gentil Carioca Lá gallery.

In the exhibition “Deságua”, Celina Portella presents three situations in videos and photographs, made in 2013 and 2014. In fixed frames, the artist portrays Fernanda Monteiro, Flavia Costa and Thiago Sancho in inconsistent actions, either redundant or contradictory.

The infinite water cycle reproduces itself in the universe of ideas, precisely and repetitively. Water is constantly present in the series of images, as a protagonist as well as medium or symbol, in the infinite video loops and in the photograph’s instant. Always in transit, water is capable of containing, flowing and washing. Past, present and future waters.
