Solo exhibition of sculptor Ron Mueck

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Australian hyperrealist artist Ron Mueck brings his work to Brazil for the first time, in an exhibition that includes documentary “Still life: Ron Mueck at work” at the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro.

About the exhibition:
It is the first time Ron Mueck’s work is shown in South America. Along with six recently made, important sculptures, this show puts together three new sculptures: two teenagers on the street, a mother with her baby and an old couple at the beach. They seem frozen in moments of life, and each of them captures the bond between two human beings. The nature of this connection between both reveals itself in their actions, small, ordinary, and simultaneosly mysterious.

A Ron Mueck exhibition is an unusual event. Mueck lives in London and his shows have been acclaimed worldwide, from Japan, Australia and New Zealand to Mexico. The detail of his human figures is meticulous, with amazing changes in scale that distance them from accademic realism, of popart and hyperrealism.

The precision in their gestures, the reliable repersentation of flesh, the suggestion of skin softness, gives them an appearance of absolute reality. These pieces do not describe situations or real people, but the obsession with trute tells us of an artist that seeks perfection and who is extremely sensitive to shape and matter. In search for verisimilitude, Mueck creates secret, pensive and fascinating works.

His creation process, very cautious, is revealed in a new film by Gautier Deblond, entitled “Still life: Ron Mueck at Work”. By revealing us the lonely artist in his work process, the film enhances even more the sensitivity and strength of Mueck’s sculptures and accentuates his particular impact on today. Set on Mueck’s studio while he produced new pieces for the show, the documentary offers an unique rare opportunity of observing the artist, lost in his creation process.
