(Porto Alegre, RS)
The Museu dos Direitos Humanos do Mercosul opens its doors with the exhibition “Deus e sua obra no sul da América” (God and its work in South America), featuring Alberto Bitar, Camila Sposati, Reginaldo Pereira and Waltércio Caldas.
The exhibition’s goal is to build a curatorial platform of high artistic historic density, capable of reintroducing the human rights theme into the people’s imaginary through an image and document merge, so that it enables insights about the cultural idea of human rights on many levels. The themes which will be developed by the museum will allow a more ample vision to be formed, exploring all the senses through the ways human rights are expressed in art.
This way, the exhibition aims at accomplishing an intervention in the artistic, cultural field in three dimensions: showing to a broad public the importance of the human rights as a society structure element; presenting human rights as a consequence of a historical process, particularly since modern times; and rainsing a discussion on human rights through an exchangeable relationship between documents, artworks, films and other means of memory materialisation.
The exhibition platform, therefore, is made from the juxtaposition of artworks and documents meaning to activate sensibility in the visitors. By using documents and artworks from different times and aesthetics as a mecanism, the exhibition rebuilds the notion of human rights from colonisation to contemporaneity.
By showing history unfolding, through multiple museum elements, the show offers understanding for the possibilities and limits of appropriating the concept of human rights in the continent.
