Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima show “Espera” in Ribeirão Preto

(Ribeirão Preto, Brazil)

The couple Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima present the series “Espera” (Wait) at the Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz, for the exhibition “Momento Contemporâneo”.

About the exhibition:
The 2013 installation “Espera” combines video projections and benches placed in the expository space, simulating spotlights that blend real shadows to those of the visitors. The benches are part of the furniture and can also be used by the visitors. Over them, impregnated shadows reveal presences that in some point sat there. Associating experiences that unfold as a poetic register, “Espera” draws in present time and memories of past situations. Time gives the keynote for the exhibition. I appears in “Contra Duchamp” (Against Duchamp), represented by the chess matches played by Duchamp, as repetition and accumulation in “Espera”, and in the sedimentary formation of the book columns in “Deposição” (Deposition).

About the artists:
Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima were born in São Paulo, 1976, where they live and work.
Both graduated in Visual Arts through Faap
