Lourival Cuquinha – “Territórios e capital: extinções”

One of the most innovative artists in the Pernambuco contemporary scene. His installations, videos and performances articulate the vitality in urban and popular cultures to the social tensions that permeate Brazilian and Northeastern Brazil realities. In the last years Cuquinha has worked in a critical way the relationships between art, market and geopolitics, poking irreverently some symbolical contemporary world wounds.

Gastronomy holds traditions, stories and values. Through recipes or traditions it is possible to identify cultural, social, environmental, geographical and historical aspects that represent the culture of a certain place or that of a country. The history of food in Brazil is shown in photographs, videos, boards, objects and artworks that tell and illustrate the making of Brazilian cuisine.

MAM Collection – restored works

The exhibition gathers 13 pieces of its collection prior to 1978, with national and foreign artists, recently restored with support by Pró-Artes Visuais 2012.
4 x 3: The art of movie posters

A selecton of Brazilian movie posters made between 1950 and 1980 and signed by graphic artists Jayme Cortez, Ziraldo and Benício. Organised according to a social typle – the worker, the bohemian, the hot one and the icon – the exhibition investigates a transition time and specific establishing of the country and this art form among us, enhancing the passage of an urban-industrial society to a consumerism society.

Completely refurbished in April 2013, the exhibition is divided into: Brasil visions and vertigos, Broken city, Hybrid bodies, Geometric breathings and Dive into the collection – in this edition a group of works by Arlindo Dairbert is presented.
