Group exhibition addresses pages through different artistic languages

(Brasília, Brazil)

On view since the 24th June, “Pela Superfície das Páginas” marks the reopening of the Espaço Cultural Marcantonio Vilaça. The group exhibition has 54 works by 36 artists whose aim is taking a different look beyond books. Photographs, drawings, objects, videos and audios make up the show, an unfolding of “Through the surface of the pages”, held in 2012 at Harvard University, USA, and curated by Júlio Martins. On view are artists that work with the space in pages, formally and poetically, stemming from the most diversified artistic medias.

There are several ways and conceptions in regards to pages, an emerging matter in the Brazilian contemporary art scene. More than a space to write about art, page as a platform has become a significant, recurrent media in the Brazilian artistic production.

Across the exhibition, Marilá Dardot‘s installation “Avant et après la lettre” and “Natureza morta com frutas” by Ralph Gehre draw the visitor’s attention. Artist Lais Myrrha presents a looping video, in which she attempts to capture time in drawing, entitled “Compensação de erros”. There is also the installation “Perspectiva para linhas paralelas”, by Bruno Cançado, in which paper gains distinctive dimensions from accentuated lines.
