Yuri Firmeza participates in the exhibition “Carneiro” [“Lamb”], curated by Bitu Cassundé, at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Ceará – Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura. The show gathers traditional and brand new works by over 50 Ceará artistss and through them, raises a discussion on the Ceará fate: leaving and returning.
From the idea of projecting a dream/desire/chance someplace else – narrative sung in “Carneiro”, by Augusto Pontes and Ednardo – the exhibition looks into questions like rural migration, transit, displacement, territorialization, attachment and affection.
“That way, we punctuate how some artists transpose elements that highlight these aspects into their poetics, be that through film, music, literature, photography or visual arts”, explains Bitu Cassundé, MAC-CE and exhibition curator. Made up mostly by the Museum collection, the show is a view of Ceará art production, going from Yuri Firmeza and Karim Aïnouz to works by Raimundo Cela and Antônio Bandeira, including Efrain Almeida and some rare photographs by Chico Albuquerque from when Orson Welles visited Ceará.
