(São Paulo, Brazil)
Millan Gallery holds from 18th November to 20th December the first solo show by artist Berna Reale in São Paulo. Curated by Rudolf Schmitz, the exhibition “Vapor” presents five videos – three of them brand new and the other two never screened before in São Paulo – registering Berna’s performances in Belém (Pará), her hometown, as well as new photography series.
With a strong political conotation, “Vapor” evidences the current phase Berna Reale is in, dedicating her work to poetically make public violence situations, abuses of power and social conflicts. Violence has been, in recent years, her major focus of attention. Reale became a criminal expert of the Scientific Skills Center of the state of Pará and lives in the Amazon region, close to the most diverse issues of crime and social conflict. Her performances are thought in order to create a provocative reflection noise.
