Parque Lage painters are featured in group exhibition | Curated by Bruno Miguel

(Brasília, Brazil)

The Contemporary Cultural Space (Ecco) holds the group exhibition “Mais Pintura” [“More Painting”], on view through January 2015. Curated by Bruno Miguel and Luiz Ernesto, 11 artists from the Parque Lage Visual Arts School, in Rio de Janeiro, present their artworks for the first time in the capital, making way to new partnerships in a near future.

The “Mais Pintura” project began in 2013, as an unfolding of the course “Practical-theorical questions of painting in modern days”, at the Visual Arts School, taught by the curators. It was about presenting paintings by new artists in weekly meetings for discussions and critical analysis. A group in constant transformation and that currently has over thirty participants, of which eleven were selected to feature in this year’s edition. The curators sought artists who could evidence vigour, discipline and diversity in their works, representing a new painters group from Rio de Janeiro.

In the past years, we have been witnesses of a fast-paced development in technology. The most ordinary experiences in our everyday lives are transformed by the most varied devices into images that are instantly uploaded online and distributed everywhere. With a short lifespan, they are seen for a few seconds, then make space to others and others to succeed them in an endless flow. However, far from opposing this technological world, painting is nourished by it. “Mais Pintura” aims at feeding the debate. In this world, painting almost becomes an oxymoron: slow to learn, create, enjoy and mainly, hard to define. And yet it persists.
