150 artworks in various medias are gathered in group show “Afetividades Eletivas”

(Belo Horizonte, MG)

The Art Gallery in the Centro Cultural Minas Tênis Clube holds the exhibition “Afetividades Eletivas” [“Elective Affections”], a combination of works from a private collection. The show comprises 150 pieces – painting, sculpture, engravings, drawing, photography, video and performance registers – from about 100 national and foreign artists. Made over the last 40 years, these works enable a discussion about art collections as well as issues raised by contemporary productions.

Curated by Margarida Sant’Anna and the very own collection owner, the main theme guiding the exhibition is the affectional relationship the collector has with his works, some offered as friendship tokens, other carefully achieved in galleries and auctions. The artworks were divided into clusters, as follows:

Da letra à imagem [From letter to image]
These segment’s works have in common the use of written words as visible element. They employ letters, words and calligraphy as media in various artistic processes.

O corpo como suporte [The body as medium]
The artists gathered in this cluster focus on the body, leaving their biographical marks, exposing personal procedures, presenting objective references about the meanings behind art making, gestures and performance.

A obra e seu espaço [The work and its space]
To represent space as landscape is a relatively recent concept. Only after the 19th century did landscape painting become a genre. Since then, space has been questioned by art, as representation, as a filed, as a place of experiencing.

A arte como questão da arte [Art as an issue of art]
This cluster presents a variety of artworks that refer to art itself, be that in the relationship to its history, its market or to collection, or even referring to museums, confronting its concepts, purposes, its nature.
