This weekend, Daniel de Paula, in a partnership with Luísa Nóbrega, take part in Permanências e Destruições [Permanencies and Destructions] at Estamparia Metalúrgica Victoria, in Benfica, Rio de Janeiro. The project consists in the occupation and artistic interventions in abandoned and forgotten places of the city.

Ruins, places in process of disappearing, vacant lots, useless areas, abandoned places, ephemeral architectures. Permanências e Destruições [Permanencies and Destructions] is an artistic intervention proposal in these territories, between the usage and the abandon, between the fulfillment and the vacancy, between the appropriation and the oblivion. The curatorial scope proposes a production not only site-specific, but a reaction to the conditions of permanency and destruction.
External factors, such as the environment, the randomness and the action of the other incide over the body and are responsible in most times for affective redefinitions. This incidence of a external factor over the artist and the viewer is what matters here. The creation of a context with an element that disparate sensitive deviations.
In the recent past of Rio de Janeiro, lots of spaces went through a process of destruction – of negligence and erosion, but also of re-appropriation and commitment. From this degradation, conditions for cultural mutations appear in projects where the landscapes feed the cultural experimentation.
Permanências e Destruições proposes an interaction of the public with unfamiliar territories, with their original function dismissed, but still with visible processes of erosion. The works amplify the sound, obliterating the spaces and thinking of new trajectories from its atual condition and proposing narratives emerging from observing and being there.
