“Expo 14/15” begins a project where artists become curators

(São Paulo, Brazil)

Bolsa de Arte Gallery is holding until February 14th 2015 the group show “Expo 14/15”. Names like Ana Mazzei, Cristiano Lenhardt, Erika Verzutti, Michel Zózimo, Nino Cais, Rodolpho Parigi, Sofia Borges, Theo Craveiro and Tony Camargo take part in the exhibition, which is curated by the artist Luiz Roque.

“Expo 14/15” begins a new project that will annually occupy the gallery’s space. In this new programe, an artist become a curator in a group show. Luiz Roque, who has a production in video and photography, is the first guest curator.

The show reminds the universal exhibitions that happened in the beginning of the 20th Century in a certain way, searching for figurative works, predominately sculptures. In these exhibitions, a variety of objects were exposed, industrial, artistic and science innovations, that tried to present a prospect of human knowledge, organising and cataloguing it.

Luiz Roque proposes a show with less of a defined narrative and more of a collection of works that match in function of their shapes, approximating to a playful aspect of this model. “I tried to search from the figurative, bringing together artworks with human, animal and mineral shapes, that show a figurative need followed by abstraction”, said the artists and invited curator.
