Representing urban art, Antonio Bokel takes part in PIPA 2015

In 2014, after presenting works in exhibitions in New York, Amsterdam, Florence, Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Antonio Bokel celebrated his 10 years of career with the solo show “Na periferia do mundo” [“In the world’s suburb”], in Rio de Janeiro. The artist presented 30 works, such as paintings, photographs and sculptures.

This year, Bokel, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1978, takes part in PIPA Prize for the first time. Since very small, he started painting, influenced by Brazilian naif art, with an old lady as a tutor, who taught him the first steps of art.

In 2001, the artist went to Florence, in Italy, where he studied and presented his first show. Bokel graduated in Industrial Design in Rio de Janeiro and incorporated digital techniques with his painting background. The artist incorporates and researches human diversity influenced by the streets. Disorder and chaos are present on his works, which is full of spirituality, questioning conformism. He creates characters who leave the canvas and join the streets.
