10th edition of Mercosul Biennial starts today with works by 402 artists from 21 countries

The 10th Mercosul Biennial, “Mensagens de Uma Nova América” happens from today until 6th Deceber in Porto Alegre with about 700 works by 402 artists such as Alberto Bitar, Alexandre Vogler, Ayrson Heráclito, Beto Shwafaty, Camila Sposati, Ding Musa, Dirnei Prates, Felipe Cohen, Fernando Lindote, Gê Orthof, João Castilho, Marcius Galan, Paulo Nazareth, Raquel Stolf, Rodrigo Garcia Dutra, Rodrigo Matheus, Rommulo Vieira Conceição, Rosana Ricalde and Sandra Cinto.

The cultural platform of the 10th Mercosul Biennial will be focused on exhibiting the artistic production of Latin American countries, resuming the idea pointed in its first edition of rewriting the art history in Latin America. This edition of the exhibition’s goal is to promote the visibility, the legibility ash reception of the artworks of these countries through a large scale show, constructed around the most relevant production of this region.

The curatorial team is composed by the Chief curator Gaudêncio Fidelis (Brazil), the Adjunct curator
Márcio Tavares (Brazil), by the Assistant curators Ana Zavadil (Brazil), Fernando Davis (Argentina), Raphael Fonseca (Brazil) and Ramón Castillo Inostroza (Chile).

Four conceptual clusters compose the 10th Biennial: A Jornada da Adversidade, A Insurgência dos Sentidos, O Desapagamento dos Trópicos and A Jornada Continua. Each one of them presents one or more shows, besides activities focused in the professional formation in the curatorial field and the development of a related Educative Programme.

The 10th Biennial will be made considering the historical substrate of art, signalizing for an excellence dimension and cultural and artistic meaning of the contemporary production. For that, numerous artworks, canonical or not, will be presented, creating a wide historical arc until the current production.

The curatorial platform of the 10th Mercosul Biennial intends to contribute for the history of exhibitions about Latin American art, intervening significantly in the presentation of new curatorial models of promotion of artistic production and historical legibility.

The exhibition will happen in six different spaces through the city: Centro Cultural CEEE Erico Verissimo, Instituto Ling, Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul, Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul Ado Malagoli – MARGS, Santander Cultural and Usina do Gasômetro.
