Phillips Latin American Sale – Showcasing Latin American art in a new light

Phillips upcoming Latin American sale on 18th November in New York, will present to the public 129 lots by important and emerging Latin American artists. The sale will include a selection of works by Brazilian Neo-Concrete masters: Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark in addition to works by Brazilian renowned, established and upcoming artists. Works by: Antonio Dias, Os Gemeos, Cildo Meireles, José Bechara, Rosangela Rennó, Sandra Cinto and Thiago Rocha Pitta are included in this promising sale.

The auction house, the only one with a department which focuses exclusively on Latin America contemporary art, has been accomplishing exceptional results this year. The May 2015 season proved to be a historic one, as the department realized its highest value sale to date, with auction records being set for Brazilian artist Rivane Neunschwander’s One Thousand and One Possible Nights, which sold for $75,000. Phillips holds the world auction record for a work by a Brazilian artist, set by Lygia Clark’s Contra Relevo (Objeto No. 7), which sold for $2,225,000 in May 2013.
