“For each work, there is a story”. This sentence by Sérgio Carvalho, whose contemporary art collection is presented in the exhibition “Vértice”, defines the show’s spirit: works by contemporary Brazilian artists, selected by three curators from different places and generations, with the goal of bringing to the viewer a panorama of Brazilian contemporary art, based on the exchange of different looks.

“Vértice” proposes a discussion about the numerous possibilities of a collection and a set of works by different artists when presenting three curatorial visions simultaneously. From visits and talks with the collector, the curators started to draw a shape for classifying the works in the exhibition, that will be presented in three different modules: “Relatos, Construções e Assombros”.

“Relatos”, curated by Marília Panitz, gathers together works that are related with displacements to see and describe the world. It’s presented through an anthropological and political bias, defying the coverage of art languages, that invade other fields of knowledge. They are works that bet in the production around space and time relations of the man in History, his documents (of culture and barbarism) and his own memory.

“Construções”, curated by Polyanna Morgana, looks to the works that are represented by the historical heritage of the constructivist Russin artist Vladimir Tatlin (1914), who elaborated a reflexion on the artwork through a series of spacial sculptures, indicating that it was “constructed”, nor sculpted or merged, as in traditional sculpture models. There are photographs, paintings, sculptures, videos and installations where it’s possible to recognize an art trend – reflective and, sometimes, self critic – that leans over the conditions of putting a work in the world, emphasizing in this process numerous physical, formal, conceptual, historical and institutional aspects.

“Assombros”, curated by Marisa Mokarzel, constitutes a space of secrets, glazes that spread through the ludic and the cruelty of things, covering oneiric places from nightmares, violences and delicateness. In this unstable place, fiction and reality cross over. The word astonish is close from the haunt condition such as the amazement , so as mysteries, puzzles and weirdnesses. Plural, the noun expands itself and propagates different ideas and feelings and this multiplicity dilates the semantic content that, associated to art, permits the aesthetic and conceptual transit of the works reunited in this axis.
