In a moment of discussion about female representativity in culture, it’s important to celebrate the prominence of women in Brazilian Art History . It’s a tradition that counts with numerous renowned artists, whose works reverberate until current days in the artistic scene, national and internationally: Tarsila do Amaral, Anita Malfatti, Maria Martins, Lygia Clark, Mira Schendel, and many others. The history of women in Fortes Vilaça Gallery also gathers historical conquests and at the same time maintains its legacy in Contemporary Art.

The exhibition was planned by the gallery’s team and presents works by Adriana Varejão, Agnieszka Kurant, Alejandra Icaza, Beatriz Milhazes, Erika Verzutti, Jac Leirner, Janaina Tschäpe, Leda Catunda, Lucia Laguna, Marina Rheingantz, Marine Hugonnier, Rivane Neuenschwander, Sara Ramo, Tamar Guimarães and Valeska Soares. “Tertulia” is a feminine noun that means reunion/grouping of friends or family and also literary speeches and condenses the intention of the works and theme of this exhibition.
