From tomorrow (15th) until friday (19th February), we will announce the artists nominated by PIPA 2016 Nominating Committee, who will compete for the seventh edition of PIPA Prize. The announcement will be published in three daily bulletins, at 10am, 2pm and 6pm here on PIPA’s websites.
PIPA 2016 Nominees
This year, 76 artists have been nominated: 1 artist collective, 28 women and 47 men. Amongst them, 30 have been invited to participate in the Prize for the first time, whilst 46 have participated in previous editions. 5 nominees have been finalists in previous editions.
About the Nominations
The Nominating Committee is requested to nominate artists with recent trajectories and who are already known in the circuit, based on recent individual and/or solo exhibitions. There is no age limit and artists can work in any medium. Artists who have been finalists in previous editions are eligible to participate again. Marcius Galan was a finalist in 2010 and won PIPA in 2012.
Artists who have won the main category of the Prize – PIPA – in previous years are not eligible to compete again. They are Renata Lucas (2010), Tatiana Blass (2011), Marcius Galan (2012), Cadu (2013), Alice Miceli (2014) and Virginia de Medeiros (2015).
The winners are invited to participate as members of the Nominating Committee, a year after they have won. In 2016 it was Virginia de Medeiros who was invited to participate as a member and deliver her nominations. Cadu is also participating again as a Nominating Committee member this year.
