Contemporary art space “Jacaranda” debuts with group exhibition and the release of the second edition of the magazine

Contemporary art space “Jacaranda” in Villa Aymoré, will be inaugurated next Saturday, 18th, with group exhibition with 26 artists and the release of the magazine’s second edition. The art space will host shows, debates and courses, serving as a space for the production of contemporary art and for artistic discussions.

On Saturday, June 18, a new contemporary art space will open its doors. The exhibition space is composed by three rooms totaling 600 m² is situated in the business complex Villa Aymoré, a historic building from nineteenth century newly renovated and located a few meters from the Metro station. “Gloria is a neighborhood with few cultural centers, our desire is to dialogue with the surroundings and try to create links with art and education institutions in the region as Capacete, MAM, PIPA Prize, Oi Futuro, ESDI, Studio X and the countless ateliers located in Lapa and Santa Teresa. Create a new contemporary art circuit in the city.” Says the artist Raul Mourão, one of the founders of Arte Clube Jacarandá.

To mark the opening, the members of the Arte Clube Jacarandá invited the art critic and curator Luisa Duarte to organize an exhibition that brings together videos, paintings, objects, sculptures by Carlos Vergara, Luiz Zerbini, José Bechara, Waltércio Caldas, Daisy Xavier, Daniel Senise, Lucia Koch and others.

Launch of the second edition of Jacaranda magazine

The Jacaranda magazine features in its new number an essay by the critical and teacher Paulo Sergio Duarte about the work of the artist Antonio Dias originally published in 1994, unpublished essay by the curator and teacher Agnaldo Farias about the work of the artist Mauro Restiffe, unpublished testimony by the artist Vik Muniz to the curator Luisa Duarte, and essay by the architect Marta Bogéa about the work of the artist Carmela Gross originally published in the book “Um corpo de ideias” in 2010, profile of the artist Barrão by the curator and teacher Felipe Scovino originally published in 2015 in the book Art Bra, text unheard by the Portuguese writer Walter Hugo Mãe specially for the magazine and invited by the artist Eduardo Berliner who also collaborated with unpublished drawings, the diary that the artist Cadu produced during his residency project in the Chilean desert and the essays about the works of Geraldo de Barros by the curator Paulo Herkenhoff originally published in 1989.

Jacaranda is a four-monthly magazine published in New York by the artists Raul Mourão and Gustavo Prado that gathers essays, a profile and an interview. The magazine has free distribution by direct mail, in bookstores and in international art fairs. The magazine is sponsored by Funarte / Ministry of Culture.

Opening of the exhibition “Do clube para a praça” 

Organized by Luisa Duarte the exhibition brings together works by 26 artists: Afonso Tostes, Angelo Venosa, Arjan Martins, Barrão, Carlito Carvalhosa,Cadu, Carlos Vergara, Cabelo, Chiara Banfi, Daisy Xavier, Daniel Senise, Everardo Miranda, Franklin Cassaro, Gabriela Machado, Iole de Freitas, José Bechara, Luiz Zerbini, Marcos Chaves, Mariana Manhães, Oskar Metsavaht, Paulo Vivacqua, Tomás Ribas, Vicente de Mello, Raul Mourão, Rato BranKo, Vik Muniz and Waltercio Caldas.
