(Miami, US)
As the end of year approaches, so does one of the art world’s favorite fairs: Art Basel Miami Beach starts next thursday, December 1st. The event is an offspring of the renowned Art Basel, in Switzerland, and was created in 2002 in hopes of becoming the much needed link between the art worlds of North and Latin America.
The demand for such an art fair turned out to be real, and Art Basel Miami Beach became a hit. Reaching its fourteenth edition this year, the event gathers 269 of the leading international modern and contemporary art galleries, not to count the many others distributed along its nine sectors and the countless art events that happen in parallel to the fair.
This year, 16 Brazilian galleries participate in the event, 11 of them in the main sector: A Gentil Carioca, Bergamin & Gomide, Luciana Brito Galeria, Casa Triângulo, DAN Galeria, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Galeria Luisa Strina, Mendes Wood DM, Galeria Millan, Galeria Nara Roesler and Galeria Vermelho.
Moreover, the Nova sector, which features works produced within the last three years, will display works produced by a substantial number of PIPA Prize nominees: finalists Cinthia Marcelle and Laercio Redondo at Silvia Cintra + Box 4 stand, and Vivian Caccuri and Jaime Lauriano at the stand of Galeria Leme. The work of Wagner Malta Tavares, PIPA Prize finalist in 2014, can also be seen in the event, featured in the Galeria Marília Razuk stand at the Public sector.
Art Basel Miami Beach happens between the first and fourth of December and expects about 70,000 visitors. Are you one of them?
