Brazilian contemporary art in focus in “Ação e Reação”

(Madrid, Spain)

André Komatsu, Carla Chaim, Ding Musa, Marlon de Azambuja, Nino Cais and Sara Ramo are some of the Brazilian artists who participate in “Ação e Reação” [Action and Reaction], which presents its preview this Saturday, February 17th, at Casa do Brasil. The exhibition was conceived as part of the VIP activities offered by the contemporary art fair ARCOMadrid, which starts next Wednesday, February 21st – many of the artists featured in the show have works showcased the fair.

Curated by the Spanish curator Ángel Calvo Ulloa together with the participating artists (a list which also includes Carlos Nunes, Victor Leguy and the duo Arnaldo Antunes and Marcia Xavier), the group show intents to promote Brazilian contemporary art in Spain, consolidating the ties that the two countries’ art circuits have been developing in the last two years. After all, according to the platform Latitude, Spain was the fourth country to most import Brazilian art in 2016 and 2017.

Asides from the nine artists that take part in the show directly, another sixteen renowned Brazilian are referred to in Antunes and Xavier’s performance. The piece appropriates works in video by artists such as Lia Chaia, Lourival Cuquinha, Cao Guimarães, Cinthia Marcelle, Lais Myrrha and Beto Shwafaty, amongst others.
