The time has come: today we announce the grand winner of PIPA Prize 2018. Chosen by the Award Jury amongst this year’s finalists – Arjan Martins, Eli Sudbrack (assume vivid astro focus), Romy Pocztaruk and Vivian Caccuri – the winner of the main category of the Prize is awarded R$130,000, part of which is destined to finance a three months residency programme at Residency Unlimited, in New York, USA.
The 2018 Award Jury chose the winner during the Award Jury meeting at MAM-Rio. There, they visited the finalists’ exhibition at the Museum, analysed the artists’ portfolios and additional material (including exhibition catalogues, critical texts and exhibition pamphlets) and a letter, where each artist stated the importance of participating in an international artistic residency programme. The criteria used to base the Award Jury’s decision is a combination of artist’s portfolio, artworks showed at MAM-Rio’s exhibition, and how relevant the prize would be to the development of the winner’s career. The weight of the factors is at the members of the Award Jury sole discretion and can vary every year.
We are also announcing the PIPA Prize Popular Vote Winner, category in which the winner is the artist who receives most votes by the public that visits the exhibition.
PIPA Prize Finalist’s Exhibition will be on view until October 27th. In the final day of the show, PIPA Prize 2018 catalogue will be launched and available to the public at the museum. It contains critical texts on each finalist’s work and trajectory, photos of the exhibition and other information on this year’s edition of the Prize.
