Lucas Arruda is one of the featured artists at ‘Luogo e Segni’

(Venice, Italy)

Over one hundred works, by thirty six artists, establishing a particular relationship with their urban, social, political, historical and intellectual setting come together in ‘Luogo e Segni’ (‘Places and Signs’), curated by Martin Bethenod, Director of Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana, and Mouana Mekouar, independent curator.

‘Luogo e Segni’ takes its title from a painting by Italian artist Carol Rama, included in the exhibition. Amongst the artists presented, 17 appear for the first time in a Pinault Collection exhibition in Venice, Berenice Abbot, Liz Deschenes, Trisha Donnelly and R.H Quaytman are some. Among those, Lucas Arruda, Hicham Berrada and Edith Dekyndt have taken part in the artist residency programme promoted by the Pinault Collection in Lens. Lucas Arruda, PIPA 2012 nominee, was born in São Paulo and paints misty landscapes that focus on the intangible connection between the earth and sky from memory.

The works presented are set up in relation with a selection of pieces that have been historical markings in exhibitions since the opening of Punta della Dogana in 2009. Along with the show, the location will offer a calendar filled with events, including performances and talks and lectures that will take place at Punta della Dogana and at the Teatrino.
