Rosângela Rennó, 2018

Last week: Rosangela Rennó, Raquel Stolf and Ismael Monticelli in “Lost and found: Imagining New Worlds”

Brazilian curator Raphael Fonseca has invited ten artists including; Rosângela Rennó, member of the PIPA Nominating Committee 2016 and 2018 and Member of the PIPA Award Jury 2015, Raquel Stolf, and Ismael Monticelli to take part in his latest exhibition: “Lost and found: Imagining New Worlds” at the LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. The event opened on February 1st and will run through until April 10th , 2019. The collective presents artworks never before shown in Singapore, and many of them have been specially commissioned for the exhibition.

Fonseca lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and focuses his research on exploring strategic linkages between contemporary art and history. For his Singapore project, the curator, critic and art historian considers a series of questions around the idea of the collection as a repository through which to understand, communicate and utilize historical accounts, imaginative narratives and classification processes. His selection of artists was based on those who have unique and unusual ways of exploring what he calls ´the ancient and existential acts of collecting, classifying, organising and showing things´. The presented works circle around collections of art and artifacts, while others critique the transparency and accountability in managing collections like these.
