Last month to see the second edition of “Rocambole”

(Lisbon, Portugal)

Pivô Gallery once again presents the collective “Rocambole”, this time at the Portuguese institution Kunsthalle Lissabon. Directed by the curators João Mourão and Luís Silva, the showing will present the shared building process of artists Yuli Yamagata, Flora Rebollo and Thiago Barbalho.

The works produced for “Rocambole” were by all three artists and done at Pivô´s collective atelier, the finishing touches were all done at the exhibition space in Portugal. The project is part of an event in celebration of Kunsthalle Lissabon´s 10 year birthday, which involved invited partner institutions to take over the space´s whole program, Pivô has been the first invited institution.

“Rocambole”´s latest edition will feature never before seen works: simultaneous revisions of the past edition combined with an advance in the individual production of each artist, reflecting the contamination of their mutual influences. Yuli Yamagata will work for the first time with modular structures, stretched out fabric spread out on the ground that takes form as some sort of typography where primary colours and an off-white remind viewers of modern paintings, like Miró, or Mondrian. This modular structure replicates the way Flora Rebollo previously showed one of her paintings at Pivô, all to indicate a reflective process on the previous experience toppled with their learning experiences with other artists being incorporated to their individual practices.
