Part of the BIENALSUR, the International Contemporary Art Biennial of South America, “Art and territory” features Dora Longo Bahia, Carla Zacagnini and Lia Chaia. In Lima, Peru – one of the 45 participating cities -, Berna Reale and Gabriela Golder’s exhibit videos; and Matilde Marín, Carla Zaccagnini or Dora Longo Bahia with their poetic works, for example.
From July 12 to November 11, all these artists explain how, in different languages, ways of describing a territory are part of the ways of appropriating it, knowing it and with all this – in broad terms – giving it a political sense.
BIENALSUR simultaneously connects the public from the five continents. Its first edition took place in 2016 with its Sur Global meetings – a platform for reflection on contemporary art -, and in 2017 with actions and exhibitions held in 84 venues, 32 cities and 16 countries. The second edition is being held simultaneously in 112 venues, 45 cities and 21 countries, between May and November 2019.The exhibitions are held in different museums, cultural centres, buildings and iconic areas of the public space. The biennial seeks to establish a global network of institutional associative collaboration that erases distances and borders and upholds singularity in diversity.
