Yuri Firmeza wins the Lisbon Fuso Video Art Festival Acquisition Award

(Lisbon, Portugal)

Yuri Firmeza’s film “Apenas um gesto ainda nos separa do caos” won the Prémio Aquisição Fundação EDP/Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia (MAAT) Acquisition Award from the Annual Lisbon International Video Art Zone, announced this week by the organization.

The winners of the 11th edition of the festival were announced on Sunday night at the Museu da Marioneta in Lisbon, and an honorable mention was also given to the film “Soul Blindness” by Margarida Paiva. The jury of the festival decided to award the 2,500 Euro Acquisition Prize to a work that reflects on the political and poetic dimension of the volcanoes “for the sensitivity and honesty of the film, for the quality and timeliness of the theme, as well as for representing, in its own way, a certain experimentalism inherent in video art”.

For this edition of Open Call, 147 videos were received and 14 selected by Jean-François Chougnet, Fuso’s artistic director, and the works were presented on August 29.
