(Thessaloniki and Athens, Greece)
Jonathas de Andrade participates in the 7th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, which takes place in Greece from October 12 to February 16, 2020. This year’s edition is called “Stasis / Taking A Stance”. The first version of the event happened in 2007 with the intention of placing Thessaloniki and Greece in the international network of contemporary art biennials.
The Biennale intends to act as a field for the redefinition of values and priorities, as stated in their website, and they believe this process is more likely to happen when things are seen from a critical distance: “This detachment aims to shape our positions, stimulate our vision and make us act”. This edition of the art event proposes a historical overview of the self, the world and life, through artistic standpoint and creations. Thus, the participating artists are looking for different perspectives of the past, present and future world, and through that finding ways to rebuild it.
The Biennale involves not only the main exhibition, which happens in all five MOMus venues in Thessaloniki and Athens and other locations in Thessaloniki, but also the Thessaloniki Perfomance Festival, from October 17 until October 24, and multiple talks, conferences and special projects that further explore aspects of the theme of the Biennale. The whole program is four months long.
