Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca present “Estás vendo coisas” at the Galeria Boavista, in Lisbon, Portugal. From January 16, curated by Rayne Booth, the exhibition will be open until April 12. Comprised of two film installations, the exhibition showcases recent moving image works, both involving collaboration with groups of performers and artists from diverse backgrounds, and looking at how popular cultural expressions respond to socio economic conditions.
Wagner & de Burca have developed a practice centred on working with groups of artists performing within distinct genres of dance, music and other forms of self expression. In the case of this exhibition, the works focus on Brega music in northern Brazil (Estás Vendo Coisas, 16’, Brazil, 2016) and spoken word poetry in Toronto, Canada (RISE, 21’, Canada/USA/Brazil,2018).
On January 17, “Swinguerra” (2019, 23 mins) will be screened, attended by Benjamin de Burca at Cinema São Jorge at 7pm. Free tickets must be picked up at the Cinema São Jorge box office on the same day from 1pm. Following the screening, Galeria Boavista will host a conversation between Benjamin de Burca, the curator Rayne Booth and Tobi Maier, director of the Municipal Galleries.
