From ten international projects proposed by ten galleries, Alice Miceli, represented by Galeria Nara Roesler, is one of the shortlisted photographers who will be on display at the next Rencontres d’Arles. During opening week, from June 29 to July 5, 2020, a jury will bestow the Louis Roederer Discovery Award on an artist, entailing an acquisition worth €15,000. Also, the public will vote for the Public’s Choice Award, entailing an acquisition worth €5,000.
The Rencontres d’Arles, an annual photography festival, was founded in 1970 by Arlesian photographer Lucien Clergue, writer Michel Tournier and historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette. At the time, photography was still regarded as a “minor” art and had not come of age. The festival played an important role in enabling it to gain recognition from institutions. Starting out as a series of encounters between photography enthusiasts, over the years it gained importance and popularity.
This award is supported by the Louis Roederer Foundation and Polka. The Rencontres d’Arles 2020 program will be released on social media and the festival’s website at 11 am (10 am GMT) on March 13. The exhibition will be released from June 29 to September 20.
