“Raised in the neighborhood Nacional, in Contagem (Minas Gerais, Brazil), Desali explores his surroundings and urban experience in different ways. Friends and close neighbors of the artist are repeatedly represented in paintings, videos and photography, as well as the landscape and permanent and changing buildings. The artist says that in his daily life, the displacements made between the center and the gheto allow him to create new connections and to think about new forms of production. Desali’s interaction with his surroundings while walking around the city becomes essential for his work, which feeds on the encounters between the material, the social and the current political moment in which we live, becoming those into something unique”.
The gallery also included in the text a quote from 2014 by Affonso Uchôa about the artist:
“Desali is that sort of artist to whom thoughts are primarily a gesture and politics, a perspective. Desali’s work is also a reflection on the present times and a call for a collective action”.
