From June 13th until August 15th you can visit the virtual exhibition “Paper Don’t Lie”, organized by the gallery Forte D’Aloia & Gabriel. The online show presents 36 pieces by 14 artists, including new and never before seen works on paper by Barrão, Carlos Bevilacqua, Rodrigo Cass, Iran do Espírito Santo, Cristiano Lenhardt, Julião Sarmento, Gokula Stoffel, Janaina Tschäpe, Erika Verzutti and Luiz Zerbini, along with earlier works by Lucia Laguna and Jac Leirner, and important picks from Leda Catunda, Ernesto Neto, and Adriana Varejão.
As explained on the exhibition’s webpage, “The works included in Paper Don’t Lie – ranging from digital to watercolor, monotypes to pencil sketches to painting – are testimony to the lingering appeal of paper and its straightforward intimacy as both a mean and an end for artists to reaffirm their visual vocabulary […]. References are as diverse as rock paintings, flora and fauna studies, printed press, still life genre, architecture, automatic drawing and the contemporary lingo of the Internet. Intrinsic to each artist’s interest, these pieces are seductive tasters of the timeless notion of paper as support for ultimate experimentation and truthfulness”.
