PIPA Prize 2021 Nominated Artists announcement begins next Monday

Next Monday, May 3rd, we will begin to release the names of the Nominated Artists for PIPA Prize 2021. All of them were chosen by the Nominating Committee 2021. Created in 2010, the award is one of the most important in Brazil, always following its vocation of being “the Window into Brazilian Contemporary Art”. One of the pillars of this mission is the bilingual database that we keep in our websites on every nominated artist, with pictures of their works, biographic data, curriculum and the already known exclusive video interviews with each artist year after year.

This year the prize decided to focus on a more recent production, so the Nominated Artists must have had their first solo or group exhibition no longer than 10 years ago.

The Prize’s goal is to be a boost for artists at the beginning of their career, privileging artists with a shorter production period, and therefore less protected by the hegemonic circuit – both gallery and institutional. It is meant to be an incentive and not a consecration award.

The names will be announced starting from next Monday, May 3rd. Stay tuned!

After being nominated, the artists who want to participate in the 12th edition of the PIPA Prize must send the material asked by the PIPA Prize coordination in the scheduled deadline in order to be able to run for the following awards:

  • PIPA Prize – The PIPA Prize Board will choose five artists from the nominees, amongst those who confirm their participation in PIPA Prize 2021. These five Selected Artists will participate in an exhibition/takeover on the Prize’s websites and social mediaproducing new content for the event. The idea is for it to be a virtual exhibition of the Selected Artists showing and promoting their artworks, without establishing a competition between the five of them. Each one will receive a donation of R$10,000.
  • PIPA Online – It happens in two rounds and the two most voted artists receive a donation of R$5.000.
