Plastic artist and ‘carnival maker’ Leandro Vieira has been mixing art and the typical Brazilian holiday ‘carnival’ since 2015 and has won two championships at Estação Primeira de Mangueira, a carnival school, in 2016 and 2019. In this second non-carnival year (due to the global pandemic), he talked to us about the cultural importance of carnival for the Brazilian heritage, the religious syncretism of the country, and also on aesthetic and political choices.
