The PIPA Archive is where we share a video from our extensive archive, inviting the public to dive into the other content and reminding the public that the PIPA Prize is not just an award that takes place at a specific time of the year: it’s also a platform full of free material on contemporary Brazilian art. You can find more audiovisual content in the “Videos” tab at the top of the site.
This week, we’ve selected the video of the setting of the 2020 PIPA Prize Awarded Artists exhibition, the first time that the PIPA Prize exhibition was held at Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro. Instead of 2020, the exhibition ran from September to November 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This edition also marked an important change: the Prize no longer had just one winner – Gê Viana, Maxwell Alexandre, Randolpho Lamonier and Renata Felinto, who were the finalists, were announced, in an unprecedented decision, as the winners of PIPA Prize 2020 (find out more about the decision). They were elected by the Prize Board, following the parameters of the edition, thus configuring an award for their body of work.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the exhibition of the PIPA 2024 Awarded Artists, featuring Aislan Pankararu, Aline Motta, enorê, and Nara Guichon, will be held in parallel with the PIPA Institute’s 15th anniversary exhibition again at the Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro, between August 3 and October 20, 2024.
Video produced by Do Rio Filmes, auto-translated subtitles available.
