Azul is 22 years old, is a visual artist from Brasília, currently represented by the INDEX gallery, and is a student at the Visual Arts Department at the University of Brasília (UnB). She develops her work around the tones of self-portrait, mimesis and body transmutation, using various media such as video and painting. However, she finds in drawing, in its expanded sense, a place of greater identification. In her research, she questions the function of the eye, the gaze and the blindness, and paradoxically works with these elements, dissecting them to the core of her interest, which according to the artist would be “the feeling of looking and the uncomfortable comfort of facing what looks at you”. Her work proposes another anatomy than just that of flesh, bone, volumes and proportions, but an astral anatomy of a future body that speculates the afterlife. She participated in exhibitions such as: “Art in Process” at ADUNB (UNB) in 2019, Brasilia Contemporary Art Fair (FBAC) at Espaço Cultural Renato Russo in 2021, “Project Pidecu” at DECURATORS gallery in 2022, exhibition “Arrangements Memory and Forgetting” at NÓS gallery at the Brasilia TV Tower in 2022, “Brasilia now” at the INDEX gallery, “Art City Identity” project at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Brasília (MAB) in 2023, and had her first solo exhibition at the National Museum of the Republic with critical text by Wagner Barja “124 corneas and imaginary meridians”.
